This Book Sucks

Has anyone ever read Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency? I found it on my uncle's shelf and remembered that I liked the Hitchhiker's Guide a lot, so I picked it up and started to read it. It sucks cock. Well, the first 27 pages do at least. Any other opinions?

Fine, maybe I'll see what the next 27 pages are about.

OR maybe I'll just chuck it and start reading "The Commitments," which I didn't even know was a book until I went to the library today. The fucker's won the Booker Prize! This is exciting.

YEY! (for monosyllable comments) (....shit.)

dirk gently is a pretty solid parody of the mystery genre. they pay-off is absolutely absurd. but if you're looking for hitchhiker-type humor you're pretty much out of luck.

Yeah, I guess I was just looking for the same, and I don't really like myesteries, come to think of it.

Yeah, I'm hip to the Pratchett and Vonnegut. Never heard of Holt, but I'm sure Michele has plenty I can borrow.

whatever you do, stay the hell away from "hemingway's chair" by michael palin. oh my god.

dirk gently's holistic detective agency sucking cock: no. dirk gently would never be caught doing such a thing, and neither would his books. but is it the long dark tea-time of the soul with thor and the hot potato record and that damned bird? i think that's the one i like better.

holy crap, holohan. that book was awful. i wanted to cry. michael palin, i said, what have you done? WHAT HAVE YOU DONE?
